Nieuport 16, 1st Fighter Detachment
This kit represents IRAS Nieuport 16 as it was used during 1916-1917 winter by 1st Fighter Detachment on eastern front.
I have used new limited run kit of Eduard's Nieuports - Nie 16. Anyway, there are few modifications done. First of all is the engine. Eduard offers 80hp Le-Rhone turned for 180 degrees (fore-to-aft) to represent 120hp Le-Rhone. It looks fine, but the fuel intake should have different shape (more like simple tubes) and should be distort in opposite direction. So I have used just the basic plastic part and have built all remaining engine parts from scratch. Furthermore, I have updated few cockpits parts, mostly control components. I have also changed the panel arrangement on the fuselage nose. Next, skis are form Eduard Nieuport 21 kit and the PE machinegun mounting is from Nieuport 17 of the same producer. Finally I have used wooden propeller from Martin.
