D.1996/16 - FA(A) 263 - Ltn. Rudolf Hohberg / Jasta 11 - Ltn. Eduard Lübbert - 1917
Status: Confirmed by photos
Radiator: Central
Setting a clear identity of this plane is a little bit difficult. This machine is visible in the background of some Jasta 11 pictures from April 1917 and is to be said as a crate of Hans-Georg Eduard Lübbert. In such a case the top fuselage surfaces should be in yellow color as per written reports.
One more detail picture shows Albatros D.III with the same color division line. This plane was assigned to Rudolf Hohberg of FA(A)263. He used it as a fast recon „einsitzer" with film strip camera in aft of the fuselage (by the way - this recon method was widely used by Austro-Hungarian Air Force). Than the question are the color used to paint the fuselage. Upper fuselage half is very dark on the photo. It is possible, that it was ex-Lübbert machine. Than the upper color still could be yellow as yellow is often very dark on the orthochromatic photos. On the other side, the yellow could be overpainted with green, brown (as presented) or with any other color. Or it is completely some different plane. The choice is yours.
